Unified Championship Wrestling welcomed back our sold-out crowd for 2026 in style. After missing from the 2025 calendar, Southern Stampede returned in eccentric fashion. With a number of new faces and names, the future is looking brighter than ever. Old guard: watch out!

The night started with a rather rude interruption from the new American in town, Blade Lennox, who was feeling disrespected from not being on a poster? He found out first hand why you shouldn’t bad mouth UCW as a company, or management, as our General Manager made her presence known, putting Blade in his place, making a match on the spot for Stampede entrant spots.

Michael Winner beat Blade Lennox – In a debut performance well above his experience, Winner not only kept pace with the veteran Lennox, but managed to trap Lennox on the mat for the 3 count. Blade now enters Stampede first, Winner will get to enter last.

Grace Lightning beat Cherry Valentine – the return of women’s wrestling to Christchurch after a number of years, was not only longer overdue, but also filled with heavy emotion from both wrestlers. Grace Lightning withstood the overly aggressive debutante: Cherry Valentine, to score the pinfall victory. Vallentine let all her pent-up emotion out post-match with a vicious attack from behind, standing over the fallen Lightning, screaming in her face. No doubt we will see more from Lightning and Valentine in the future.

Rhys “King Gibbo” Gibson beat Marc Morales, ½ Unified Tag Team Champions Rest Development – With his tag team partner Jimi Conway stuck in South America, Morales took on King Gibbo in singles action. These two long standing UCW wrestlers, and former tag team partners, clearly knew each other well, reversing many of each other’s signature moves. In the end, King Gibbo, and his strangely and heavily strapped arm, delivered a Royal Execution Lariat, and got the pinfall over Morales.

Light Heavyweight Champion Matt Attack beat Heavyweight Champion Big Gun via Disqualification – a back-and-forth match, with the much stronger Big Gun catch Matt Attack out of midair multiple times, showcased the difference in styles between the two divisions. In true never-give-up fashion, Matt Attack fought until his body gave up on him. A Full Flex submission locked on by Big Gun looked to cement the win for the heavyweight, until the guile of the light heavyweight had him get a foot on the rope. Even while passing out form the pain, Matt Attack instinctively kept his foot on the rope for the rope-break, ignored by Big Gun. After the ref called the match over, a confident Big Gun celebrated, throwing the limp Matt Attack to the ground, before hearing the news: the record books will say Matt Attack beat Big Gun on this night. Our champions are champions for a reason, just not the same reasons.

Elliot Samuels won the 2026 Southern Stampede – outlasting 24 other competitors. A match that saw almost as many new faces as old, the 2026 Southern Stampede has something for everyone. Blade Lenox entering #1 after his loss to #25 Michael Winner was already set to create some drama.

Ray Gun was never going to let Valentine’s day go by without making a scene, exploding from a box ringside, dressed as cupid, with roses and chocolates, delaying his entry into the match until much later on, waiting for his Gun Cabinet stablemate Feddy Ford to join him. This wasn’t enough, with Grace Lightning entering and quickly throwing Ray Gun out via a spectacular head-scissors.

BLD made themselves known, with all 3 members in the ring together for early portions of the match, working together as a well-oiled machine. A strangely familiar looking “Masuku” entered early, with many questioning if it was somebody else entirely. TJ Illes and Marc Morales showed some cohesion together, hitting BLD with joint cutters.

John Henry and Stuart, formerly of CQRT, continued their fallout, with the fastest elimination of the night coming by way of Stuart, who quickly returned to lowblow John Henry and eliminating him in turn. One of our officials Ref Dirk Lammington, while trying to remove Stuart, found himself officially entered in the match. CQRT’s last hope, Leith Himself, entered like a ball on fire, quickly removing the official from the match.

Two of the strongest 2025 heavyweight contenders, Kai Solomon and Chalky Murdoch showed what power and size can do in a match like this, laying out all in their path, before meeting face to face, with sparks flying. Three more debuting faces, Josh Castle, Rex Rebel, and Benjamin Augustus, showed everyone their future looks bright, working together to take it to the big boys, and eliminating tag team and numbers game specialist, Ram.

With only the final four left, and a dominating display from Archie Bowers newest find: LUKA, the result looked set. Elliot Samuels left laid out, ready to be rag-dolled at any moment, Michael Winner fought off LUKA and Archie Bower as long as he could, before being elimination #6 by LUKA. A surprising turn of events, saw LUKA voluntarily eliminate himself for Archie Bower.
The over confidence of Archie Bower, was his undoing. During this time, Elliot Samuels found time to recover, and rise with the support of the UCW crowd. After a number of devastating German Suplexes, throwing Archie Bower on the back and top of his head, Elliot Samuels threw Archie Bower over the top rope, to the eruption of support of the UCW crowd.

Elliot Samuels announced he will be challenging Matt Attack for the Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event of our next show: Whiplash. After tonight, we know our GM Kristel has her work cut out for herself keeping all these competitors inline, and keeping their physical interactions in the ring.
